A new tournament under the Oceania Rugby Sevens brand the 

provides targeted High-Performance preparation for regional pre-qualified rugby teams ahead of the Tokyo Olympics Games.

The event features four Men’s and four Women’s teams with the national teams from Australia (current Women’s Olympic Gold Medalist), Fiji (current Men’s Olympic Gold Medalist) and New Zealand (current Men’s and Women’s Commonwealth and RWC Sevens Champions) joined by an Oceania side in both the men’s and women’s event.

The Australian Government is proudly supporting the travel costs for Fiji’s national women and men’s sevens teams to compete in the Challenge, through the Pacific Step-Up program, PacificAus Sports. The $52m program aims to build sustainable, elite sport pathways between Australia and the Pacific, with a major focus on women and girls.

The2021 PacificAus Sports Oceania Sevenswill be held at Queensland Country Bank Stadium and is strategically supported by the Queensland Government, through Tourism and Events Queensland (TEQ), Sport and Recreation (SR) and Stadiums Queensland (SQ), and Townsville City Council (Council) to bring the world best rugby sevens talent to North Queensland.

The 25,000 seat QCBS in Townsville was officially opened in February 2020.The multi-purpose rectangular venue is suitable for a variety of events including rugby league, rugby union, soccer, motor sports and concerts. It featured Sir Elton John as the stadium’s first ever event and has since hosted a number of events including NRL games, the Horn V Tszyu fight, NRL All Stars and Super Rugby.

The Queensland Rugby Union is the State’s governing body, administering almost 240 rugby clubs and the Super Rugby AU champion Queensland Reds team. Founded in 1882, the QRU is responsible for the development of both XVs and Sevens rugby in the State. Six of the winning Gold Medallists and the coach in the Rio Olympics Rugby Sevens team were from Queensland. The QRU is proud to continue its support for rugby in North Queensland.
